BUTOH FAMILIA: Waves of the Sea is a contemporary butoh dance work exploring Jewish ancestral and spiritual inheritance across generations—moving memory, embodying ancestry, and transforming inherited history into a living archive.

Inspired by the artist’s great-grandfather, a rabbi, and his 1912 religious book from which the piece takes its name, the work brings his Kabbalistic legacy into dialogue with Jewish dance, music, familial memory, and historical events.

These materials are expressed through butoh, an avant-garde form of Japanese dance that uses imagery, memory, and deep physical states as its movement base.
